The New year Dua

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Hisham RA reports that the Sahabah RA would learn the following du’a for when the new month or new year would begin:

Allahumma adkhilhu ‘alayna bil amni wal iman, was salamati wal islam, wa jiwarim minash shaytan, wa ridwanim minar Rahman.

“O Allah, bring this [month or year] upon us with security, iman, safety, Islam, protection from shaytan, and your pleasure.” (Mu’jamus Sahabah of Baghawi, & Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabarani, Hadith: 6237)

Seyadul Istaghfar

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah SWT is:

‘Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta. Khalaqtani wa ana `Abduka, wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa Wa’dika mastata’tu abu’u Laka bi ni ‘matika wa abu’u Laka bidhanbi; faghfirli fa’innahu la yaghfiru-dh-dhunuba ill a ant a. A’uidhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu.’ If somebody recites this invocation during the night, and if he should die then, he will go to Paradise (or he will be from the people of Paradise). And if he recites it in the morning, and if he should die on the same day, he will have the same fate.”

“O Allah! You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshiped except You. You created me and I am your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have committed. I acknowledge your favor upon me and I acknowledge my sins, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except you.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6323)

“Neither My Earth nor My Heavens could contain Me, whilst the heart of My believing servant does contain Me…”

What’s the connection? Well, the hadeeth qudsee in question is actually the first hadeeth mentioned in that book. About it, Ibn Taymiyyah said:

This is something they (storytellers) narrate from the Israa’eeliyyaat (narrations of the Jews and Christians). It has no known chain to the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace). Its meaning would be (if it were authentic): His heart contains belief in Me, love of Me, and knowledge of Me.

Otherwise, anyone who would claim that Allaah Himself is present inside of the people’s hearts is more of a disbeliever than the Christians, who restricted that (Allaah’s actual presence within the creation) to the Messiah alone.

Other scholars of hadeeth, like al-‘Iraaqee, as-Sakhaawee, and Al-Albaanee, agreed that there is no known basis for it. See: Silsilat al-Ahaadeeth ad-Dha’eefah (#5103

Ilm / Knowledge

Allah the Exalted said:

Say: My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

Surah TaHa 20:114

Are those with knowledge equal to those without knowledge?

It is only the people of understanding who are receptive of the advice.

Surah Az-Zumar 39:9

Allah will raise the status of those who believe among you and who are given knowledge by degrees.

Surah Al-Mujadila 58:11

Usfan. `Umar appointed Abu At-Tufayl to be the governor of Makkah. `Umar asked him, “Whom did you appoint as your deputy for the valley people (that is, Makkah).” `Amir said, “I appointed Ibn Abza, one of our freed slaves, as my deputy.” `Umar said, “You made a freed slave their governor in your absence” He said, “O Leader of the faithful! He has memorized Allah’s Book and has knowledge of regulations of inheritance, along with being a proficient judge.” `Umar said, “Surely, your Prophet has said,

(Verily, Allah elevates some people and degrades others, on account of this Book.)” Muslim collected this Hadith.

Verily, only those who fear Allah among his servants are those with knowledge.

Surah Fatir 35:28

The fact is that it is not the eyes that turn blind, but what turns blind is the hearts contained in the chests. (22:46)

But whoever is (too) blind in this (world to see the right path) will be (too) blind in the Hereafter (to reach the salvation), and much more astray from the path.(17:72)

Mankind virtuous status over angles

It is He who created for you all that the earth contains; then He turned to the heavens and made them seven skies – and He is the knower of all things.

(Remember) when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a deputy on the earth!” They said, “Will You create there one who will spread disorder on the earth and cause bloodshed, while we proclaim Your purity, along with your praise, and sanctify Your name?” He said, “Certainly, I know what you know not.”

(43:60. .And if We will, We may create angels from you who succeed you on the earth.)

And He taught ’Ādam the names, all of them; then presented them before the angels, and said, “Tell me their names, if you are right.”

They said, “To You belongs all purity! We have no knowledge except what You have given us. Surely, You alone are the All-knowing, All-wise.”

He said, “O ’Ādam, tell them the names of all these.” When he told them their names, Allah said, “Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of the skies and of the earth, and that I know what you disclose and what you conceal.

Knowledge vs desires

The Jews will never be pleased with you, nor will the Christians, unless you follow their faith. Say: “Guidance of Allah is, indeed, the guidance.” Were you to follow their desires despite the knowledge that has come to you, there shall be no friend for you against Allah, nor a helper.

Those to whom We have given the Book and they recite it observing the rights of its recitation – they are the ones who believe in it. And those who disbelieve in it, they are the losers.

On the authority of Ibn Mas`ud. Al-Suddi said, on the authority of Abu Malik, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, regarding this verse, he said: They make lawful what is lawful and forbid what is forbidden, and they do not distort it from its proper places.

He said: They follow him as he should be followed.

There has come upon man a period of time in which he was nothing worth mentioning.

We have created man from a mixed sperm-drop to put him to a test; then We made him able to hear, able to see.

We have shown him the way to be either grateful or ungrateful.(76:3)

Is it you who create it, or are We the Creator?

Example of life

He will say: O woe to me, I wish I had sent good ahead for my life.

Surah Al-Fajr 89:24

This person refers to the Hereafter as “my life” once he understands that his life in the Hereafter will last forever. He will be grieved when he sees that he has sent no good deeds forward for his life in the Hereafter. Therefore, our most important goal in this life should be to perform many good deeds in preparation for our life in the Hereafter.

Obeying prophet PBUH

And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger and fears Allah and is conscious of Him – it is those who are the successful ones.”
[Surah An-Nur; 24:52]

Say (O Prophet): “If you really love Allah, then follow me, and Allah shall love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.”

Whoever obeys the Messenger obeys Allah, and whoever turns away, then, We did not send you to stand guard over them.

Hadith states,

Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, will acquire guidance; and whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, will only harm himself.

And the words of Jesus, upon him be peace, “If You punish them,  they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, You are the Almighty, the Wise.” (5:117). Then the Prophet raised his hands and he said, “O Allah, my nation, my nation!” And the Prophet wept. Allah Almighty said, “O Gabriel, go to Muhammad – and your Lord is most knowing – and ask him why he is crying.” Gabriel came to him and he asked him and the Prophet told him about it, though Allah knows best. Allah said, “O Gabriel, go to Muhammad and say: Verily, We will please you regarding your nation and We will not disappoint you.”,Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 202,Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

I swear by what you see,

and what you do not see,

it is surely the speech of a noble Messenger, (that he conveys from Allah).

nor is it the speech of a soothsayer, (but) little you heed to the advice.

also

Nūn , by the pen and what they write,

with the grace of your Lord, you are not insane

And you will definitely have a reward that will never end.

And you are surely on an excellent standard of character.— T. Usmani

And indeed, you are of a great moral character.

Then, how (awful a spectacle) would it be when We shall bring a witness from every community, and shall bring you over them as a witness.

On that Day, those who have disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger shall wish that the earth were leveled with them. They shall not (be able to) conceal anything from Allah.

Tazkiya before Ramadhan

Success is surely achieved by him who purifies himself,

and pronounces the name of his Lord, then offers prayer.

But you prefer the worldly life,

while the Hereafter is much better and much more durable.(87:17)

Imam Ahmad recorded from Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,

Likewise

Dua of attaining Taqwa

O Allah! Give my soul its good. You are its Guardian and Master, and the best to purify it.

likewise

and by the soul, and the One who made it well,

then inspired it with its (instincts of) evil and piety,

success is really attained by him who purifies it,

and failure is really suffered by him who pollutes it. (91:10)

Your Lord has said, “Call Me, I will respond to you. Definitely those who show arrogance against worshipping Me shall enter Jahannam (Hell) with disgrace.

(The proud will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection like ants in the image of people, and everything will be stepping on them, humiliating them, until they enter a prison in Hell called Bulas. They will be fed flames of fire, and given for drink a paste of insanity dripping from the people the Fire.)”Previous Ayah(ibni kathir )

So, because they broke their pledge, We cursed them and made their hearts hardened. They change words from their places, and they have overlooked a good deal of the Advice they were given. Every now and then you come across a certain treachery from all of them, except a few. So, forgive them and forego. Indeed, Allah loves those who are good in deeds.

likewise

There are those among them who (apparently) listen to you, but We have put coverings on their hearts, so that they do not understand, and heaviness in their ears. If they were to see all the signs, they would still not believe in them,

likewsie

Surely We have created for Hell a lot of people from among Jinn and mankind. They have hearts wherewith they do not understand, eyes wherewith they do not see, and ears wherewith they do not hear. They are like cattle. Rather, they are much more astray. They are the heedless.(7:179)

((They are) deaf, dumb, and blind, so they return not (to the right path)) 2:18, and about the disbelievers,

((They are) deaf, dumb and blind. So they do not understand.) 2:171 However, they are not deaf, dumb or blind, except relation to the guidance. Allah said;

(Had Allah known of any good in them, He would indeed have made them listen; and even if He had made them listen, they would but have turned away with aversion (to the truth).) 8:23,

(Verily, it is not the eyes that grow blind, but it is the hearts which are in the breasts that grow blind.) 22:46, and,

(And whosoever turns away blindly from the remembrance of the Most Gracious (Allah), We appoint for him Shaytan to be an intimate companion to him. And verily, they hinder them from the path, but they think that they are guided aright!)43:36-37 Allah’s statement,

No! But that which they used to commit has covered their hearts with rust.

Why then, did they not supplicate in humility when a calamity from Us came upon them? Instead, their hearts were hardened and Satan adorned for them what they were doing.(6:43)

Say, “Who is the One who delivers you from the darkness of the land and the sea when you supplicate Him in humility and in low tones (promising): ‘If He delivers us from this, We shall truly become grateful?’”

Say, “Allah delivers you from it and from every pain; Yet still, you associate partners with Him.”(6:64)

Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Verily, in the body is a piece of flesh which, if sound, the entire body is sound, and if corrupt, the entire body is corrupt. Truly, it is the heart.

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No one who has the weight of a seed of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.” A man said, “But a man likes to have nice clothes and nice shoes.” The Prophet said, “Verily, Allah is beautiful and He loves beauty. Arrogance is to disregard the truth and to look down upon people.”Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 91,Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim
