Al-Quran & Winter

So, with Allah there are spoils in abundance.

He is the Lord of both points of sunrise and both points of sunset.

The east of summer and winter, and the west of summer and winter( ibn kathir)

So, I swear by the Lord of all the points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west. (70;40),

This is due to the differences in the risings of the sun, its movement every day, and its prominence from it to people.(ibni kathir)

The Lord of the east and the west; none has the right to be worshipped but He. So take Him alone as a trustee. (73;9),

wherein they will be reclining on couches, feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold.

Allah said:

O my son, establish prayer and enjoin good and forbid evil and be patient over what befalls you. Verily, those are matters requiring determination.Surah Luqman 31:17

Prophet pbuh’ Companions & Winter

Umar bin al-Khattab , may Allah be pleased with him

‘Umar bin al-Khattab said: “Winter is the prize of the worshippers.”

Ibn Rajab al-Hambali said in ‘Lata’if al-Ma’arif’ (p. 276):

AbduAllah Ibn Mas’ud , may Allah be pleased with him

And it was narrated that Ibn Mas’ud said: “Welcome to winter! Blessings descend in it, its nights are long to pray in, and its days are short to fast in.

Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him

When it was winter time

,‘Ubayd bin ‘Umayr would say: “O people of the Qur’an! Your nights are now long for you to recite in. So, recite! Your days are now short for you to fast in. So, fast! Night prayer in the winter equals fasting during the day in the summer.”

Ibn Rajab (may Allah mercy him) said: “Praying at the night of winter equals fasting at the day of summer.”

That is how

This is why Mu’adh wept on his deathbed and said: “I weep because

I would love to see Allah tala however i will miss three things :

1-thirst I felt when I fasted, 2-praying at night during the winter, and 3-sitting knee to knee with the scholars during the gatherings of knowledge.”

Their sides remain apart from their beds. They call their Lord with fear and hope, and spend (in charity) out of what We have given to them.

Prophet pbuh said;

Shall I not tell you of the gates of goodness?

Fasting is a shield, charity wipes out sin, and the prayer of a man in the depths of the night.

Imam Ahmed ,At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah in their Sunans.

So, no one knows the delight of eyes that has been reserved for them in secret, as a reward of what they used to do.

Allah says;

“I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and it has never crossed the mind of man.”

Prophet pbuh said;

O people! Feed with food, keep relations to kith and kin, spread the Salam, pray at night while people are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace.”

Abdullah bin Umar said that the Messenger of Allah said,

Verily, there are lofty rooms in Paradise in which their outside can be seen from inside and their inside from the outside.

Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari said, “Who are they for, O Allah’s Messenger” He said,

For those who use soft speech, feed food and spend the night in voluntary prayer while people are asleep.
